The Secondary Education program at Ansu Sonii University trains prospective teachers to work with students in junior and senior high schools. This level of education is where students begin to deepen subject-specific knowledge and prepare for tertiary studies or vocational paths. Our program is designed to produce knowledgeable, innovative, and values-driven secondary school educators.
Students in this program choose subject areas for specialization — such as English, Mathematics, Biology, History, or Business Studies — and receive in-depth training in both content and pedagogy. Courses emphasize curriculum design, instructional methods, adolescent psychology, and classroom assessment. We aim to develop educators who are not only masters of their subjects but also mentors who inspire and guide teenagers through a crucial stage of life.
Fieldwork and supervised teaching practices are integral to the learning experience. Students participate in school placements where they take on real teaching responsibilities, receive feedback, and reflect on their professional growth. This prepares them to manage diverse classrooms, foster student engagement, and handle academic and behavioral challenges with maturity and skill.
Graduates from the Secondary Education program are equipped to teach in junior and senior high schools, serve as education officers, or pursue further studies in specialized education or leadership. Their training ensures they can meet national curriculum standards while also making learning meaningful and relevant to students' futures. Above all, they become educators who help shape not just what students know—but who they become.
The College of Education at Ansu Sonii University stands as a pillar of academic excellence, nurturing future educators with the tools to inspire, lead, and transform learning environments. Recognizing the pivotal role teachers play in shaping society, our college is deeply committed to training passionate and competent professionals who are ready to meet the educational needs of Liberia and the world.
Our curriculum blends theory with practice, equipping students with a strong foundation in child psychology, curriculum development, classroom management, educational leadership, and teaching methodology. Students engage in practicum experiences at local schools, giving them early exposure to real-world teaching and classroom dynamics.
We also emphasize educational innovation and inclusivity. Courses are designed to train teachers for diverse learning environments—including rural and underserved areas—so that no learner is left behind. Students are encouraged to explore digital tools, differentiated instruction strategies, and student-centered teaching practices.
Graduates of the College of Education leave not only with a degree, but with a mission: to uplift communities through knowledge. Whether they pursue careers in teaching, policy, administration, or curriculum design, our alumni are prepared to make lasting impacts in education systems locally and globally.
